"The roots of this study group are primarily in the Dakpo Kagyu lineage of Tibetan Buddhism and the treasure lineage of Terchen Barway Dorje, however our group will study teachings from other lineages of Tibetan Buddhism as well."*
"Lineage is an important concept in Buddhism in general, and in Tibetan Buddhism in particular. It describes a succession of spiritual adepts linked by a teacher-student relationship. In such an unbroken line, teachings and practices are passed down through generations of practitioners. A lineage provides a living validation of the teachings and practices of a given tradition, and confirms its authenticity."*
"In Tibetan Buddhism a number of lineages can be traced back to Guru Padmasambhava, the historical Buddhist master who established Buddhism in Tibet Guru Padmasambhava, who himself attained complete buddhahood, at the end of the time of his activity in Tibet concealed many teachings for future generations. Those concealed teachings, are called treasures or termas."*
The treasure lineage of our teacher, Bardor Tulku Rinpoche, began with Terchen Barway Dorje , a meditation master who lived at the turn of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, a disciple of he 14th Karmapa and 9th Situ Rinpoche of the Karma Kagyu. Terchen Barway Dorje was an incarnation of Nupchen Sangye Yeshe, one of the twenty-five principal disciples of Guru Rinpoche, and of Barom Darma Wangchuk , the founder of the Barom Kagyu lineage. Terchen Barway Dorje was enthroned as a tulku (incarnate lama) at the Surmang Monastery. Later in his life, Terchen Barway Dorje founded the Raktrul Monastery, which continues to exist to this day. "*
